    Default Sherwood 6" Jointer

Hello, I have just bought a Sherwood 6" Jointer. It arrived in pieces and the instructions are hopeless. Most of the time I'm guessing. Does anyone know where I can get proper assembly instructions for this machine? Thank you.

First off.... Welcome to the forum.

Have you tried asking Timbecon, where I'm presuming it came from.

Usually best to go to the source before going round the bend.

Doesn't mean you'll get what you want but it's a good starting point. Try ringing their Melbourne shop and ask for Haige or any of the boys men as they would have put them together many times at shows and in the shop for floor stock.

    Cheers - Neil

Which of the 6" Jointers did you get? Here is a Grizzly manual that looks very similar to the cabinet Sherwood unit but the standard unit also looks the same except for the stand.
As Neil suggests, Timbecon should be your first port of call. Are you close to either of their stores?

Thanks for the feedback. Timbecon sent another manual which is still a bit vague. Tried Youtube and couldn't fine anything. Will have a few educated guesses. Cheers

Maybe if you gave a bit more exacting location there might be someone local that would be willing to give you a hand.

Hi Lewis, I feel your pain, spent a fair proportion of last weekend putting together a deluxe cast iron router table package I got from Tibecon and found the illustrated instructions which are a bit lacking in detail very frustrating to follow. Did get there but reckon that it could have been done in half the time if I had even half decent instructions. The unit comprises a number of different components boxed seperately which were not too bad to put together individually however without a holistic manual detailing how they all fitted together was a bit challenging. Ended up resorting to blowing up pictures of the unit from their website to help me figure out what went where which may assist if you haven't already done so.

Having said that am a complete novice and have never either used or owned a router table and assume that they generally deal with people that are a bit more experienced than I am.

    Cheers,

    Rudy

Have to agree that Timbecon's manual is very minimalist. I bought a half-speed grinder from Timbecon. There was incomplete instruction on how to fit all the bits together. In the end, I had to work it out myself from pictures of the grinder posted on the web page.

    Default Mine arrived yesterday

Hey Lewis mine arrived yesterday and here I am looking for guidance - I had a beer and still could not work out those instructions - I have read clearer Ikea instructions!!

    The instructions are beyond woeful.

I am still unsure how to adjust the table heights or if I have attached the fence holder correctly - now having a red thinking I will try again tomorrow.
I was going to purchase the Sherwood thicknesser but will hold back after this experience.

Hmm, mine is in transit, Timbecon dispatched the day after purchase however has been sitting in the Border Express Warehouse at Melbourne Airport for over a week now with no indication of expected delivery date.

Give my recent experience in putting my router table together as per my earlier post am looking at finally receiving with both excitement and trepidation in equal measure, was hoping that the jointer might be an easier proposition to put together but seems this may not be the case.

Have also searched high and low for instructional material on the Timbecon site and WWW with no success so will just have to grit my teeth and make the best of it when it arrives.

Well I won't go into too much detail but I made some calls to them today and suffice to say my thicknesser I will be buying from Carbatec - previously I had great service but won't be rushing back. I asked for someone to help me over the phone - nope couldn't do it and when I asked for any other instructions the guy told me to do a google search as "they all come out the same factory"!!

I got it together today and it runs beautifully but it shouldn't have been this hard - and I still need to adjust it to work at 100% and the manual is no help at all - which the guy at the store admitted there were problems with -disappointing after spending good money.

The Jet tools one from the USA is close enough to help and the diagrams instructions are a lot clearer and actually make sense -try that when googling.

Good luck and enjoy it once it's together!

    Thanks for the response Halbs.

Am stuck with it so will just have to make the most of it when it finally arrives, there does seem to be a bit of a disconnect between the company and the consumer, have bought a fair bit of stuff from them over the last few months and thought myself a loyal customer but may need to reconsider.

Their marketing is quite amazing however feel there is a bit of a gulf between their promotional material and level of care for the customer, at the very least providing some proper instructions or advice on how to put things together would be reasonable.

We are unfortunately in this country left with limited choices with respect to suppliers and product range so are quite possibly at their behest especially if we are only backyard hobbyists rather than commercial clients that are likely their financial backbone. The range of choice is the only thing that makes me want to live in the USA other than their BBQ.

Anyhoo will just need to get on with it, am sure I will be pleased once I get it going.

Have bought a heap of recycled blackbutt and ironbark, and other odds and sods that I cant wait to get into.

    Cheers,

    Rudy

You will love it once you get past the frustration of getting it set up - as I said mine is currently at about 90% but I still had a ball milling up some old oregon for a grazing platter tonight. I am looking forward to getting it completely sorted as I have "collected" a heap of old timber ready for projects. Just a bit disappointed with their lack of service or care especially after admitting they know the instructions are no good!

How good do the Americans get it with BBQ gear - I have a Weber Smokey Mountain and they have so many after market options and cheap give aways it's crazy!!

Enjoy the weekend with your Jointer hopefully it arrives tomorrow - I'm in rural South Oz and it got to me within a week.

Okay thanks Halbs, will keep my powder dry for now, is still sitting in the Border Express Warehouse so hopefully can tackle it next weekend. Your intial comments are very promising and am sure just as was the case with my router table which I am very happy with will grow to love the jointer pretty quickly with the frustration a distant memory.

Am personally running 4 different BBQ/smokers, get the most use out of the Fonatto Bullet Charcoal Smoker and Hark Electric Smoker, occassionaly the spit gets ago with the standard flat plate gas unit used when I don't have the time or couldn't be bothered with the other ones.

Saw a great program about Argentinian BBQ on Netflix last night, ate my way around there a few years ago and consumed more BBQ meat in a month than the preceeding 5 years and believe there is some substance to their claim that they are the world champions of BBQ. it's called Asada in case you are interested and have Netflicks. We dont however are still using the subscription from a hotel we stayed at in Mexico last year

Cheers Rudy I will give it a watch - the smoking is a relatively new obsession of mine and I have been doing the standard pork and briskets, and now making salami which has been interesting!! My cousin's lad has a restaurant in Adelaide that sets a very high level using the pellet smokers.

The smoking will take a back seat now the Jointer is in operation - the Oregon is coming up beautifully!

Let me know if you need any tips on putting it all together, cheers

Some of their phone staff in Melbourne need a lesson in customer service. I had to end up going to management re a tool damaged in transit after spending over close on two weeks trying to get satisfaction from one particular person.
