Yep they have lost me after ordering a machine that was over $1600 they didn't want to know me - I am still waiting for a call back from last Monday from one of the ladies that work there and then the young bloke also who admitted he had no idea but would get someone to ring me??

Had heard good things and previously had good service but they have lost me.

I had the same issue with that company .I had purchased almost all my equipment from them only to have a huge disagreement with the manager and virtually told him where to put his gear and I wouldn't be back.

My experience with Timbecon has been universally positive. I buy from them in preference to others as does my Men’s Shed.

We recently had a problem with a 3 year old bandsaw. Timbecon could not have been more helpful both in terms of advice and in sourcing the necessary parts from overseas.

There seem to be some quite polarised opinions here, my only complaint is the poor instruction manuals their kit comes with...other than that have no real complaints as things stand right now. Hopefully wont have to test their levels of service if something does go wrong.

The smoking will take a back seat now the Jointer is in operation - the Oregon is coming up beautifully!

Thanks for the offer Halbs, hope I dont need to take you up on it.

Yep Charcuterie and smoking can become an obsession, will be picking up a half pig in a few weeks as I do every year and will end up with enough sausages, salami, pancetta etc to last till next year.

Delivered today !, am looking to putting together over the weekend..is a bit complicated by the fact that I also need to install the spiral head blades which I stupidly decided to order post purchase of the unit, the decision has cost me money for the pleasure of installing myself rather than having it delivered already installed. Anyhoo lesson learnt.

Fingers crossed it all goes OK as the spiral head has no installation instructions at all which ironically may actually not be a bad thing

Once again, a new machine, in the hands of someone new, and no assistance or help from the manufacturer or the reseller, it’s an absolute joke. I hope someone from the “big stores” reads some of the posts on this forum, they certainly would learn a thing or two about how crap their service is.

Does this mean you got the straight bladed cutter head in the machine and you have to install the whole head, or do you just need to install the cutters?
If you have to install the head you need to do it before assembling anything else as stated on page 18 here. The instruction manual is similar in information to what I got with my Carbatec unit over 10 years ago but they are pretty easy to assemble so you should be right

the best manual i've ever seen is the sawstop one.

all the bolts are grouped into coloured section that pop out the back of the cardboard/plastic packaging. so you know if what you're putting together needs 7 bolts, there will be 7 bolts of the right length, 7 washers and 7 nuts all in their own section so the manual says "use bolts in purple section" and you get a novella of a manual that was written clearly by someone who's first language was English.

i swear timbcon, carbatec etc must have been charged by the word for their manuals so its as cut down as possible.

Yep got the straight blade and had to install the complete spiral head, ignored the instructions and became a quite simple process, did it before assembing the jointer and was a simple matter of unscrewing the bearing housing, removing the head and replacing with the spiral head.

The whole unit it now complete, took about 4 hours to put together...the instructions are quite poor, was a page missing from the instructions delivered however fortunately the complete manual is downloadable from the Timbecon site so was only a minor annoyance. Is a bit like navigating an English restauarant menu in Asia, a few spelling mistakes here and there however the general gist is there. Is a big help if you save and print the photos of the unit at A3 so you can visually see where all the components are meant to go as the picture resolution in the manual is awful especially given my eyesight is nor what it used to be. In all despite the trepidation went much better than expected and was able to enjoy a red after rather than during the process.

Having said that I haven't put to the test yet so am hoping I'm not getting ahead of myself...did my required chores at home last weekend so have all day in the shed this Saturday and will see how it all goes.

Have a bunch of recycled Blackbutt I am using to build a proper workbench and will start the jointing and thicknessing process then.

    Cheers,

    Rudy

    Hi guys,

On the topic of the Sherwood 6inch cabinet stand jointer.
I'm thinking of buying one but I'm concerned whether it has enough power to run recycled hardwood through it?? I recently bought the 13inch thicknesser which handled 200mm wide beams with acceptable ease. Has anyone had experience squaring up old hardwood with this machine? Talking spiral head of course. What are the thoughts out there.

    Cheers,
    Chaney
