I might be too late ... and mine is a different model ... but some instructions here for my old woodfast model 1 if it's of any help.
To install helical head:
.. disco SEC
.. remove fence
.. remove belt
.. remove infeed and outfeed tables
.. remove from legs/table
.. turn upside down to gain access to bearing housings which are seated on the body and held by some allen head bolts.
.. with old head out remove bearings .. press and / or bearing puller (I got a mechanic mate to remove with a press).
.. BUY REPLACEMENT BEARINGS.
.. reverse / rinse and repeat.

Cheers for the input Glenn.Yes machine is pulled apart and just waiting for the parts to come back and then get reassembled.I will try and put some before and after photos up but technology is not one of my strong points.
cheers....Roy

JUst a quick update on what happened last night.Chris and Drew came down with the new head and new bearings attached ready for the install. After a bit of tooing and froing and remembering of sequences it was back together.Turned it on for a quick test and she was going with no pieces flying off into space.
So then the infeed table was put back into place and a straight edge placed across both tables. And then it was realized that the cutter blades are about 1.5mm lower than the outfeed table.Problem being that the outfeed table is fixed.
So I will be making a phone call to the supplier and seeing what he has to say.Not the result we were after on a pretty cool night.Once again a big thanks to Chris and Drew unbelievable effort guys.
cheers....Roy

Not that uncommon on Au built machines. I have an Ezycut combination machine on which the outfeed table is fixed and you have to set the blades to the table by adjustment bolts that lift the cutter head bearings. On a stand alone machine not a problem but on a combo you have to dismantle the combo to access the inner adjustment bolts (a real PITA).
I would think that a fixed table machine is not really suitable for conversion to a spiral head as there is no easy adjustment for height other than lifting the bearings which may not be possible.

A bit frustrating and not a good result for the money involved. The cutter head on this machine is located by vertical chassis panels and is not seated on a horizontal member that can be packed to height as needed so a simple solution like adding packers under the bearing mounts is not possible. We do have a solution depending on where Roy decides to go from here but the machine has to come apart entirely, modified then put back together. I was puzzled for a few minutes when I realised what the problem was and then woke up to the fact that it is the blade protrusion from the cutter head that sets the out feed table height and a spiral head has a fixed diameter so an adjustable height out feed is necessary.

Hi Doug
Edits happen to the body of a post but not to the summary in "New Posts" which causes confusion as you read the summary, go to the post and it's different.

Would be interesting to find out if the supplier of the spiral head has heard of anyone completing a successful conversion of this particular model. If it was sold with the knowledge of exactly what machine it was to be put in and it does not fit then you should be entitled to a refund at least if they cannot give you a solution.
Cheers

Not quite just got off the phone and looks like taking off the outfeed table and doing some work there. Can't put any shims under the bearing housing as that bolts to the machine.Last night one of the brainstorming ideas was to modify where the holes are in the frame and lift the housing up a tad.But it was cold late and better to sit on it for awhile than do something rash.I am sure we willk come up with the right solution.Supplier reckons that we are close

Who was the spiral head maker if I may ask? I've been planning an upgrade.

By geez you blokes type fast.Yes the machine wasn't intended for a spiral headed cutter when it was designed. This was confirmed by woodfast after i had bought the cutter. The supplier reckons he has done it before and others have done it but every machine is a bit different. The outfeed table being set and not being able to be adjusted is not a problem as you set your knives to the table height. As Chris has said we are finding these things out as we go along and i am sure we are going to get it sorted eventually. As for the measurements they were right but i didn't factor in the height of the blades as they adjustable my bad there
I appreciate all the feedback.Hopefully if someone decides to go down the same path we can have a solution for them.
cheers....Roy
