Question Spiral Headcutter: Scheppach HMS 2600ci

Does anyone know if there is a spiral headcutter available for the above thickness/planer combo? I wrote directly to the Shelix folk and to Scheppach. No response from Shelix and Scheppach sent a reply which included:

    > What is it ?
    >
    >?? IVE NO IDEA ALLAN !

This is one reply between staff members in a chain of e-mails which eventually ended up in my inbox. Ultimately they said Scheppach have never provided such an accessory but given the above....who knows.

    Does anyone have any idea?

    Thanks,

    Default And then they said...

Further response from Scheppach UK agents (NMA) a couple minutes ago after I supplied them with some information regarding spiral headcutters:

"Scheppach have never used this type of cutter head on any of their planers or machinery , looks v expensive , conventional hss blades produce a much better finish than hardened blades ."

Sorry, but that is a load of rubbish. We changed our thicknesser head at work to a Shelix about a year ago it is beyond comparison.

Aside from dropping the noise level by almost 10dB, the finish is second to none. At a feed rate of 20ft/min (about 6m/min) there are no cutter marks visible to the naked eye and even at 60ft/min there is zero tearout in even the most figured/reversing grain.

The Australian rep is Robert Gregory in QLD ([email protected]) and he was most helpful to us in getting the head custom made for our machine.

It is expensive, but worth every cent.

PS. All the usual disclaimers; I'm in no way affiliated with any of the above companies, etc.

    Default Feedback re: Shelix

Have received some feedback from Byrd Tool Co, the makers of the Shelix headcutters, regarding the availability of spiral cutters for the Scheppach HMS2600ci.

    This was their reply:

"We do not have a cross reference on that machine. We have a drawing and spec's on a HC260 10" j/p combo (which lists for $719.00, which includes the first full set of 4-sided solid carbide inserts). You may send us the spec's on the HMS 2600ci if you wish us to quote you."

Does anyone know if the HC260 headcutters match the 2600ci's? I suspect they may do.
