Tapping thread in jointer cutter block

The cutter block in my lil ol' 6" jointer has holes for two springs under each end of each of the three blades. I'm wondering if it's not an entirely stupid idea to tap threads into those holes and use grubs screws (high tensile?) to help hold the blades up and set their height instead of the springs. I've seen some bigger, more modern jointers that use this method and it seems like it would be much better and easier to use when setting the blades.

I think its a common thing to have adjusting screws to lift the blades. The down side is that it would be a slow way to level them because you would have to keep tremoving the blades to adjust the grub screws. But you are not in a hurry, are you?

I reckon so far I've spent more time chasing springs that have launched themselves across the workshop than I do using the machine so yeh, I've got plenty of 'spare' time
