Thicknesser
Hi,
Just looking for some advice on a thicknesser. I've read through alot of previous posts which have been good, but thought I might see what people thought in regards to my personnel usage.
I'm looking at heading to the Melb wood show in October and am trying to gain as much info as I can before I go.
I use alot of recycled wood from demolished houses, redgum, redbox, murray pine etc etc. Not massive sizes in width/height or length but obviously hard working wood.
Looking at only 12" - 13" thicknesser and a dust system which from what I've read would have to be at lease 2hp
I'm planning on getting a jointer in the not to distant future
Got between $1000-$1500 to spend, what are people thoughts?

Mate, I reckon if you check out the carbatec website they will have something that could suit your requirements. You might even be able to pick up a jointer as well while your there. I think they have a level entry jointer for about $570 and thicknessers about the same or less. I figured they will be at the wood show there so at least it gives you a starting point.
Dave,

Tellem you may buy both if they can come up with a deal. Start an account number identifyer thingy they have where they keep a record of what you buy..works for me.
And of course from there you'll be buying other tools , like bandsaw and bits and pieces.
If you get those two machines you will need to buy more machines as the disease sets in. Many many examples of these people on this forum.
cheers

Have you considered the limited width of the thicknesser. While a 12" Jointer would be a dream come true as far as I am concerned, a 12" thicknesser may prove to be a little limiting.
I have a 15" 3hp & there are still times when I regret not being able to afford the 20"

Thanks for all your input guys, it's been very useful.
One last thing, how important or useful is the cutter head lock on thicknessers in regards to stopping snipe.
And in regards to Hafco T-318 compared to T-330, I'm guessing for the extra $180 it's worth getting this as well as digital heaght gauge and two speed gearbox
For $594.00 could anyone suggest a better unit on the market?
