    Thanks Steve,

I'm hoping all will be ok next time I use it as when I checked it last night the cutout had returned to its original feel. Almost feels like it's a melting type off cutout????????? Didn't have time to try it out but will as soon as I get some free time, probably June the way things are going with painting and son moving back in etc etc etc.

A plug in, in line amp meter is great in helping understand why it might be tripping.

e.g. if the unit consumes 10 amps (ie 2400 watts power consumption) and the amp meter runs at 10 amps consistantly the unit is being used at its capacity and will trip when the unit has worked for a while.

The power consumption should only be at this level when the unit is being used to its maximim cutting ability.
Manufacturers cutting depths are on softwood timbers.

The temperature of the day will have an effect on when the overload will cut in as they are all thermal switches, the hotter the day the quicker it activates, the colder the day the slower it activates

I must invest in a nice True RMS Clamp Meter, nice and easy to take current measurements rather than having to break the cct. I have lots of other uses for one as well being into electric powered model aircraft. (lots more than 10 amp draws there lol.)

It would be interesting to find out how this particular cut out functions as it seems to take a while to recover. If it becomes too much of a pain I may replace it with a better component or design up an electronic cutout to suit.

Maybe just use it to take smaller cuts and avoid long runs until I can afford a real thicknesser, then I can sell this one on Ebay???? (Beware!!!!)

Hello guys. Im new to the world of thicknessers. So I purchased the Ryobi AP13AK, (Price and getting Bunnings to honour 10%price discount price match) any way, got to put about 30m of hardwood through it before it stopped. Sent it in for repair, 8 weeks later (very off with the wait)Ryobi returned it with a repaired switch. Used it again this time it lasted about an hour. I pulled the swith out to have a look and the everybit of space behind the switch and inside the switch was full of saw dust. So I cleaned it out and it starts and works again. Might be the cause of your machine cutting out. I for one can't wait for the whole thing to short out and catch fire so I can sue Ryobi and be able to afford a better machine.

HAD the exact same one from Timbecon... HAD being the opperative word here... it worked fine until it decided it wouldnt... then I had the same problem with the cutout switch... not working it hard working in the cool it turns itself off... didnt matter what I threw at it it still did it... pine, sheoak jarrah spanners screwdrivers... didnt matter just turned off

So after many abusive words and things where hurled at it... that casings a right bastard I can tell you!!... ended up leaving it for a week and trying again SAME STINKING THING!! Only this time sparks... then MANY SPARKS... I could see them now cause the casing had a lovely gaping crack in it then I left it for another week or so you know livin in hope and all that... well I tried it again this time a distinct smell of something burning then sparks then... it no go no more

So I gave up... stuff the thing... mind you lucky me eh? Just happened to have anothery slightly larger one to play with... now please do not read that as a nice thing as I believe all thicknessers hate me with a vengence and only pretend to be nice to get me relaxed then WHAM!! they go to shyte just when I need them the most

AAANYWAYS!!... all the best with it mate... hope you figure a work around... and when you do please post it cause its still laughin at me out there in the seatainer I havent hurled it yet cause a) it would make a nice mooring or anchor b) someone (YOU) might come up with a fix then I can use it again while this other bitch sits on its date whining and complaining... then they could take turns at it... and I might get something done around here!!

As I said all the best
    Cheers
