Thicknessers
Hi people,
I am looking into the possibility of purchasing a thicknesser in the near future.
I was wondering what the best one for doing Jarrah with the biggest size going through at 200mmx300mm and a range of sizes smaller.
Lengths would be different depending on the job but longest would be about 2400mm
Thanking you in Advance
Rob

I'm not sure there is a definitive answer here. Just find a thicknesser that will take timer 300mm wide and allow over 300mm in height.
Cheers.
Vernon.

Depends on how many $$$$ you want to spend. I've got a Carbatec 15" CTJ381 to which I've ran nearly full width Jarrah through taking a 1mm off each pass, bit slow but suits me.

I would like something that is reliable to do that much work

A piece of jarrah 2.4x0.2x0.3m as specified would weigh around 120 kilograms - over 260 pounds - which would involve some serious handling problems and OHAS issues if you have a helper. I would suggest that you need a good industrial weight planer/thicknesser with roller infeed and outfeed tables.

CTJ-381 would be the ducks guts One thing to be mindful of is that you canonly feed lengths through of 171mm and over.
I can't fault them.
Just read Grahame's comment about the weight of stock you'd be putting through, Haven't fed 120kg through, it but easily 80-90kg lengths up to 3m.

If you're looking at doing this on a regular basic, I'd forget about using any of the Carba-Tec machines unless it's a minimum of 5hp motor which means 3phase, cause the 3hp ones will take forever as you'll be limited to light passes on the slower feedrate for thicknessing 300mm in Jarrah.
Cheers
