    Default Upgrade, just a bit.

I thought you folk might be interested in the latest addition to my space.

I needed to upgrade my thicky to something more commercial to allow me to cut down on machining time and get a better finish off the machine. The ability to take bigger cuts accurately was a priority. As was the ability to just stand and feed material into the thicky without having to help the finished product out. Time is of the essence. I have been making a LOT of laminated kitchen bench top for a client so I was looking for a new machine. Brand spanking new.

I looked at Robland, Felder, SCM and others. I was looking at spending upwards of $20k. Then this puppy came along. Second hand, yes, but low hours. And I was looking at a 410 wide machine. This is 530 wide for a little bit less money.

There is nothing like a truely excellent piece of equipment. Nothing! Electric rise and fall on the Thichnesser table DRO to .1mm. Powered changeover from planer to thicknesser, no lifting tables. Subfence on the planer fence for thin work. Can take as little as .2mm off in thicknesser mode.

this thing is a killer bit of kit. I sold a couple of machines to help finance the purchase. This is the most I have spent on a single piece of equipment and I am glad I did.

    cheers

Do you find it difficult to use having to feed the timber sideways

A lot. But not as much as a new SCM 400 under and over.

Correct. They only make separate machines now. Think about 70- 80 k for the pair.
