Default Cleaning up my powermatic thicknesser.

I feel like I committed a bit of a sin.. I bought a new powermatic thicknesser some time ago and ran a few meters through it just to see.

It then was stored as I had the moey to get it at the time but not the space. I put silverlgide on it.

Well, now I want to use it I see it has rust all over the table. What a shame. Its only surface rust, no damage to the tables - same with the rollers.

Something made me take mineral turpentine to it and remove the rust. Thats all done but now I am not sure why I used it. What should I use to remove it before putting the silverglide back on?

    Thanks,
    Jason

WD-40 or similar, Spray on wipe off.

I don't use silverglide for protection any more. It doesn't last long at all. I use Beckets Wax for metal surfaces. If you used something like that in the first place your thicknesser would not have rusted.

I may not have described it correctly before but Beckets Wax is designed and sold specifically for use as protective coating for metal machinery. Easy to apply as well

Thanks guys, I got it cleaned up reasonably well. A lot of elbow grease required. Amazing how long it takes with clean rags to wipe off all residue from the cleaning.

Not the best picture but I am happy, a little bit of pride lost when you treat your machines like this but it still cuts beautifully.

I wonder how much those spiral blades are going to cost me when I need to replace them

I couldn't find my silverglide anyway so I used the traditional wax as I have had a container sitting around for a while.

    Now, on to the jointer..
