Old Wood Master jointer - should I get it?
I'm considering the 6" Sherwood bench top jointer but this popped up on Gumtree:
$_20.JPG
Jointer - 6 inch | Power Tools | Gumtree Australia Belconnen Area - Melba | 1115400974
I don't know how old it is, it looks like a 1980's version of the PT-6.
Seller won't accept less than $350.
Is it worth it?

Seems high to me. It's got a relatively short bed on it and for the price you can probably get something a bit better.

Thanks, I didn't want to go above $250 but I know sometimes with these old machines they can retain their value and even be better build quality than newer alloy and aluminium machines (like Bosch, Triton), but perhaps that doesn't apply here.

One can't really see but it doesn't appear to have any adjustment to the height of the front table.
Could be a really cheap built jointer.

I agree with the other comments but you have to weigh up a couple of things. I regularly see older second hand 6" jointers appear on both gumtree and ebay for somewhere between $200-$400, some good value, some not so good and overpriced for what they are. A lot more of them get advertised in the bigger cities like Sydney and Melbourne which probably drives their price down a bit. Where you are located you won't see as many up for sale so maybe grab something local even if it is a bit more than it is really worth but the alternative is to spend quite bit more for brand new or allow the time and money to pick one up a fair distance away. Some older ones come with spare blades as well and with a bit of cleaning, sharpening and fine tuning can perform very well. Just make sure the guards and fence are there and free to move easily.
