Woodfast 10” jointer blades/ cutter head question
Hi everyone,
I have just picked up an old 10”woodfast jointer minus the blades.
Question is, is there anything else that sits in the blades slot along with the blades?
If so, hopefully these can be purchased?

Hmm might be a bit of a headache, as in addition to the knives, a set of 'gib blocks' are needed to lock the blades in place. They are a length of steel, tapered in cross section, with a series of bolts which allow the whole assembly to be securely held in place.
Every make and model is likely to have their own specific size, and while a engineering shop could make some up, they would have a hefty price tag.
Here are a few other options
1) find an old cutterblock from someone who has upgraded to a spiral, not unrealistic but the 10 inch size might be another complexity. The standard 6, 8 and 15 inch blocks pop up very often on the forum or gumtree. Perhaps you could cut down a set from a 15 inch thicknesser if they are compatible....
2) Spend a bit more and swap the head for a spiral. Probably about a grand outlay, but even staying with your cutterblock there will at least be a few hundred to get it operating, eg 100 for new knives and whatever new gib blocks cost you..... plus the many advantages of a spiral machine.
Sorry for the slightly bad news. Good luck!

Should just clarify I mean to say take the gib blocks from a 15 inch thicknesser head and cut them to size (provided they are compatible.......) not cutting a whole cutterblock down.
Also how many knives is the block? 3 is standard in the 'generic' heads, but if yours is a 4 knife block it might be another issue with this route.
Cheers
