Default Worn infeed roller on Ryobi Thicknesser

Does anyone know how I'd go about replacing / servicing a worn in feed roller on my Ryobi Thicknesser?

Default Problems solved on Ryobi thicknesser

I would like to reopen the dreaded snipe syndrome on the Ryobi 300mm thicknesser.

I think that we must accept that this machine is a hobby one only, and is subject to wear and tear if over used.

I think I paid about $390 for my Ryobi in 1995, and it is about the same price for one now if you shop around.

Mine suffered from an increasing amount of snipe over the years, and it appears that the cause for snipe had been open to many opinions.

I found that with my machine that I could lift the motor/blade/roller body on the left side, facing the infeed side by about 6 mill. the snipe became worse as I lifted the elevation size of the substrate thicknessing.

Solving this problem: as it turned out I found that the wind up/down shank was held by a bracket that fitted into a slot at the bottom of the spring. The amount of up and down movement at this point was a little disconcerting, but I did nothing until the sniping became too much.

Eventually I measured the width of the hold down bracket, and then the slot on the wind downb shank. there was a sizable amount of difference in the two measurements which created the lifting of the body of the machine.

I won't state amounts as I think it is up to the owner to measure the difference on their own machine and to create a bracket to take up that slack.

The new bracket was fitted, the wind down/up was tight, but a little oil made it reasonable, and it will get better as it wears in, maybe back to the state where I changed the bracket this time.

The most important news that I can relay is. No more snipe. None at low levels (5mm) or at high levels (150mm).

YOU will not get less than 5mm unless you remove the kick back fingers.
