Default Can you put 16mm bore blade on a 5/8" arbor?

This sounds like a stupid question, and my initial reaction was NO! But...

I am getting a new blade for my scms. The sticker on the saw says "16mm blade bore" but the current blade is 5/8"! So the saw obviously has a 5/8 arbor but the saw itself says to use 16mm.

Looking at the mitre saw blades on Bunnings website, all the big blades seem to have 30mm bores with 16mm bushingse but none have 5/8 bushes. Which seems crazy considering how popular 5/8 arbors are. But Carbatec sells both 16mm and 5/8 bushings.

    So questions:
    - can I use a 16mm bore blade, or is this unsafe?
    - does anyone even make 10" blades with 5/8 bores? All I can find is 1" or 30mm.
    - if my only choice is to use a oversize bore blade, I might as well just get the exact bushing from Carbatec.

My initial reaction is the same as yours. I don't think it's likely to be dangerous, but having the blade not perfectly centred on the shaft can introduce vibration and leave a poor finish as well as cause extra wear on the bearings.

For the extra few dollars, buy a proper sized bushing and you don't have to worry

Do you have a Vernier Caliper to check exactly what the arbour is? I would start there and see what it measures. I am in agreeance with Elan saying that if not a nice fit it will vibrate.

I bought a 350mm diameter blade from a travelling tool salesman at a swap meet. The blade looked to be 30mm and I think I even measured it as best I could with a steel rule the bloke was also selling. Got it home and.....it was a poofteenth too small. After a lot of thought I figured out how to attach it to my metal lathe and turn it to the size I needed.
    Just do it!

    Kind regards Rod

As well as all of the above it's also possible the blade will damage the shaft.

I'd be surprised if this would create any significant problems. You're talking about .125mm, which is around 5 thou. Is this within tolerance for an item that is designed to be fitted vertically to a shaft by hand through an insert in a tablesaw top? Probably.

I went to a few tool shops today and got an 80T Makita blade with 1" bore.
None of the stores had the right bushings though.
But it's ok, I just ordered a bunch of 5/8 bushings from Timbecon.
