6mm x 400mm long spade bits
Can anyone advise where I can buy 6mm (or 1/4") thick by 400mm long spade bits in NSW / Australia. Everything seems to be from overseas.
Thanks
Dave

Dave
You can certainly buy extensions to suit all spade bits.
Irwin 12" Impact Quick Change Extension - Bunnings Australia
However if the width of the spade bit itself is to be 6mm, the small chuck will be larger than that. The version I have is a tad over 16mm

I also have a 6mm bit, but I don't recall where I obtained it from, what I used it for or indeed if I have ever used it. Commonly, it is the electricians who use long drill bits for reaching down into the walls of housing so you might try electrical specialist stores.

Thanks Paul.
I'm drilling a hole through hardwood that needs to be a minimum of 150mm, however the standard 150mm spade bits have a widened shank toward the end, so they really only give you about 130mm. Thus I'm looking for a longer spade.
And as you correctly pointed out, the extensions are useful for reach, but not for continuity of length.
I'll try the electrical stores.
Thanks again.

I was not able to find a spade bit, but did find these.
SUTTON Drill Bit 6mm X 300mm Extra Long Ansi B94-11 HSS D1870060 | Total Tools OK, not 400mm, but you should be able to drill a depth of 200mm.
I don't think this is what is says in the description https://www.totaltools.com.au/186958...e-bit-48270106 but if it is you have a winner.
This will do the job Sutton Tools 460 x 6mm Long Auger Bit - Bunnings Australia but it is likely to be a special order. You might find a better supplier.

Hi Dave,
Have you tried Mcjings. I see they have 300mmx6 long series drill bits(not spade). They may get you out of trouble.

Ross

Thanks all for your support. I end up going with BOSCH 6 x 400mm Spade Bit - DAREDEVIL XTREME | Total Tools.
The drill bits are great options too. And thanks for the tip on McJing's - I've not heard of them - will add to the list of useful suppliers.
