There is no rule saying the compressor has to be in the shed or even next to it, it can be anywhere and pipe the air to where you want it. Mine is nowhere near the shed and I can barely hear it running.

I’ve got two of those hush compressors and I think we’ve worn out two or three others, they’re excellent. For home use, can’t fault them, the wheels on the newer one are s bit sloppy on the axle bolts but that’s easily fixed.
Ive used mine for spraying, framing guns, fixout guns and even run a die grinder, can’t fault them.

Also, Year before last I sold off all of my orange gas nail guns, theyre too temperamental and got sick of buying new batteries for them, went back to my air guns and my working life is much happier.

I have a lot of space. At least in theory. In reality dear wife doesn't want to look out at a air compressor box. However there are always creative solutions to that. The real reason it needs to be next to the shed is electricity.

Apart from everything else that has been said, I have two. A real big 5 hp, 150L tank and a tiny oval tanked one. The small one is enough to run the stapler and Brad nailer, but the single best reason for the big one is the gasket sander. I bought one for cleaning aluminium before welding and it has the arbor that takes the Scotch Brite discs. Since I bought it, it has surprised me how much I use it.

I was looking at the Hush compressors, when the Stanley look-very-similar compressor went on special at Supercheap Auto. It's worth googling for specials/deals/discount codes, and I bought it for $340-ish

Definitely much quieter than a belt-driven compressor; it currently lives under the bench, not boxed in, and can be talked over when it's running.

So, go for a "silenced" compressor, but be aware that Chicago aren't the only brand.

What is/are the tank size(s) of your home ones?

    Thanks
