    Question arbour from chuck

I was just wondering if anyone knew how to remove the arbour from a chuck? I need to change a keyed for a keyless on my drill press.

    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

It depends on the chuck. If it's a name brand like Jacobs or Albrecht or Rohm there will be instructions just a Google away. If its a Chinese no-name probably the best you can try would be the Jacobs procedure as that's the most copied chuck. (With modifications though, so you never know). Some of the Jacobs procedures call for drilling out the back of the chuck body big enough to get a drift to the arbor.

My large Jacobs needed an industrial strength wallop with the big hammer to release the chewed up arbor. (ebay pot luck chuck that turned out ok)

Thanks for the reply, but it is immaterial now as the arbour won't fit the chuck that I wanted it to go in. No matter, I'll just have to live with the keyed chuck in the drill press.

+1. I bought a couple of arbors from ozmestore on ebay...came quickly, cheap and not bad quality (they check out ok when bearing blue is used to confirm the taper contact)

Jacobs has slotted tapered wedges designed for removing chucks from tapered arbours .
They fit in the groove between the back of the chuck and the start of the morse taper ,you give them a goodly tap with a hammer and the chuck and arbour should part company .
