Default (AU) small workshop mill recommendations

    Hi,

I have a backyard 18sqm workshop and would like a to get my first vertical mill (I'm a beginner), something quality, for timber and mild ferrous.

It shouldn't be too bulky and should arrive in parts that two people can hand lift because the access to the workshop is going to involve carrying it down. I have 15A in the workshop.

    I have a budget of around AU$3000.

    Thanks
    Richard

As it is also for metal work you'd be better off asking in the metal work forums.

If you are taking about small and new, for $3000 you definitely won't need 15A.

Does the $3k include the price of work holding, tooling and cutters?
It's dead easy to spend a couple of $k on these alone.

Its unlikely to come in pieces - you will have to take it apart an assemble it your self.

It's amazing what you move if you really want to.
4 years ago I bought a small Hercus 0 moll that weighe ~230 kg
Im this thread you can see Ho I move mine by myself.
Finally got myself a small mill!

    Thanks BobL.

~AU$3000 is just for the machine and doesn't include work holding/tooling/cutters. I could go higher than $3K, not more than $4K though.

I will read your thread now!

I should add, I would prefer new and also it would need to be delivered.

If you hire a specialist machinery moving business to do the delivery you can probably get them to move it into your shed as well.
Might cost a couple of hundred more but it will beat taking it apart and reassembling it and maybe messing it up and even voiding the warranty?

What do you mean by "down"? Stairs?, the back? or ??

Thanks, "down" the garden path, literally, my workshop is down the back of the garden, about 30m from the nearest vehicle access and about 10m of the path is only earth, I plan on rectifying the path situation.

Sounds very much like my situation in the past. Level the ground two sheets of 18 mm ply and a half dozen lengths of water pipe goes a long way.
