BB-80S sander/linisher
Hi all, I was using the belt sander and I noticed a new noise, those sort of noises that u dont want to hear crunching/ticking/grinding/ sort of noises...on closer inspection turned out to be a bearing in the idle roller bearing was just starting to fail, the cage was starting to fall apart, I suspect these bearings are pulled straight out of the packet at the factory, fitted, then out the door, no grease just the rust prevention oil/lube the brg manufacturer would apply.
The machine has probly only done 5 hrs work so for a brg to fail is a bit soon, anyway new bearing $38 and a bit of time and all going again....with grease
A downside with this particular brg design is that it is self aligning and not fitted with any type seal (this is normal) to prevent dust entering which will soon dry up any light oil lube so I made a rubber seal which I fitted to the housing, looks just like a washer, this shoud help keep dust out and grease in...a few pics of course....anyone with one of these machines will recognize
The original bearing would still be going if I had of put a bit of grease in it , just didn't think of it so a bit of a recommendation, a bit of maintainance can go a long way to keeping things going
