Default Belt Disc Sander Table not level

A while back I purchased a second-hand belt-disc sander but no manual. I have no idea what brand (it has a plate saying BDS-9) though it does look very similar to a Carbatec or Hafco machine. My problem is that the disc table will not lock in a horizontal plane

The grub screws are set firmly on the flat parts of the support shaft but I end up with this. The flats on the shaft are parallel on opposite sides for half the length of the shaft.
Should I grind/file one of the flats at a slight angle to try and correct the problem, or what?
    Thanks for any assistance.

Hi Dave, maybe the original owner assembled it incorrectly? Checkout the unit in this link, the table support looks like its the other way round:

What holds the support shaft in place?
Rotate the support shaft. It may be held in with grub screws, splined or just a press fit.
Those were the droids I was looking for.

Thanks guys. I had a mate who has some engineering expertise look at it and he thinks the grub screw holes are slightly out of alignment with the centre of the support rod hole. His suggestion is to ignore the fact the support rod has flats on it and just screw home the grub screws anywhere on the round part of the rod. This seems to be working so I will leave well alone.

Maybe I don't use my belt/disk sander a best way - but isn't the important thing to have the disk table and mitre track at 90deg to the sanding disk ?

    Annoying maybe but not useless.
