    Default Bench Drill Press Modification

Some two years ago I acquired at auction a no-brand Taiwanese-made bench drill press in very good condition except that the table height adjustment is done manually rather than by rack & pinion.

Is there a way to modify the existing column to add a rack & pinion or could I purchase a similar rack & pinion column?

All suggestions will be gratefully received!

Yvan, you can use a caravan jack. Here is a link to pictures of one being used: Drill press crank table retrofit

Also the Easy Riser column weight would make moving easier.

I agree with Derek, the easy rider approach is simpler that retrofitting a rack and pinion.

These are easy to make yourself, The weight does not have to go inside the DP column , I just attached the cable to the table, then up through a pulley attached to the motor and hung some lead weights of this.

Just because I like mucking around with gear earlier this year I replaced my easy rider with this
    Mechanised DP table height control.
