Default Bench grinder odd thread size - possible to fit a tapered spindle?

    Hi all,

I recently purchased a second hand 8" grinder, and then bought a tapered spindle set and it doesn't fit. Shaft size is 16mm but thread size seems to be M12 x 1.75. Seems like it's not standard to use with a 16mm shaft?

Does anyone know how I might fit a tapered spindle or have I bought a dud?

    Thanks

    Pat

    Bunnings sell 12mm tapered spindle.
    Josco 12mm And 1 / 2" Right Hand Tapered Spindle - 2 Pack - Bunnings Australia

They (in)conveniently sell in it in a two pack BUT the other spindle is for a 1/2" thread.
There is no mention of thread Pitch

Thanks Bob, but the problem with those ones is that the shaft size is 12mm which then steps down to the 12mm thread.
So it won't fit over the 16mm shaft and therefore the thread can't reach.
I've just been on the phone with Precision Tools and it seems like it's just a silly non standard size. And AIMS are still selling the same grinder under a different brand name ("GRIP").

So looks like a dud for what I want to do. Lesson learned, just buy new.

    Thanks for looking.

If you can find a metal worker with a metal lathe they can accurately bore out the 12mm step to 16mm. If you are in Perth I can offer to do it for you.
If not try the metal workers forum.

    Thanks Bob
I appreciate the offer - if I was nearby I'd definitely take you up on it.
