Thread: bench sander questions

HI. The machine I have has no pad under the belt,I just rub the plate with parafin each time I change the belt, have been doing that for years with no problems.It now is very very smooth.
In regard to fixing a disc I use spray adhesive,just don't use too much and clean well before putting on a new one.

I just removed the old disc, looks like it was stuck on with a spray adhesive much like the contact stuff you affix laminex or edging.. (Yellow). I'll try clean it off with some spirits and stick a newy on. Cheers

Personally, I just buy sticky-backed discs. They're not as permanent as a glued-on disc, but I wear them out pretty fast anyway.

You can also buy & glue on a disc of velcro for quick disc changes. This does mean you're limiting yourself to velcro-backed discs in future, though.

Also, I've found that while velcro-backing is good for sanding large flat surfaces, it can 'round over' the edges of smaller pieces, as the extra backing acts as 'cushioning.' Sometimes this is desirable, most often it's an annoyance.
