Default carbatec 400mm WDS-400 drumsander adjustments??

hopefully someone with one of these can guide me a little -
after some 5-6 hours use over the past few months i find that the drum is no longer parralel to the bed - it being a cuple mm higher at the motor end - ie the drum assembly has settled and is lower on the open end

according to the manual this can be adjusted - it looks reasonably straight forward to lift the open end by putting a shim under the bed retaining bolts hence lifting the bed at that end . the adjustment instructions shown in the manual to the business end however has me completely bafflled, it says to loosen two bolts - the diagram shows two lines going down to the bottom of the machine under the motor to indicate the bolts but the pictur is fuzzy and you cant actually see what bolts need loosening . the idea is to loosen them so that the drum assembly pivots allowing adjustment up and down using the hieght adjsuter wheel at the top of the machine

ok i am mechanically pretty retarded and cant work out which bolts i need to loosen -

hopefully someone else has the machine, has made these adjustments and can guide me a little

Hi, a couple of mm is massively out, check the 4 bolt heads on the drum side of the height adjuster, they hold the motor and drum mount together they should be tight. Then check the 4 nylock nuts on the slide they should allow the slide to move but not wobble [try to lift the open end of the drum] if all ok and the machine is mounted to something stable then you will have to shim the feed belt assembly. Good luck,
    Garry.

I have been away and have just seen this thread

The feed table can be adjusted upwards by loosening the 2 allen key bolts at the motor end and inserting shim/s that should have come with the sander. This will lift the table at that end and compensate for the drop of the drum at the open end.

If you do not have the shims, an aluminium drink can can be cut to make shims.

If you still have problems you could speak to Charles who is the repair man at Carba-tec Melbourne - he is most helpful.

    Hope that helps

I agree about the instructions - it was only after I spoke to Charles
that I was able to sort mine out.

do you have to relase the bolts holding the bed drive assembly so the bed can move ?

I can't remember whether I had to - I think the shim went in relatively easily.
You might have to loosen them slightly and also the 2 bolts at the outer end just to make it easier to slip the shim under the feed table at the motor end.

    Try it and see
