Default Bosch GTS 10 J - table saw

After going in to good old 'Trade tools' to buy a makita MLT100, i was talked into looking at the bosch GTS10J. he didnt have one there for me to look at, nor did he know much about it.

it was $675, so a little bit more than the Makita one, But it was alot more compact( which is perfect for me, as im only going to be re-sizing timber for smaller projects)

Has anyone got one of these bosch's or know anything about them?

    cheers

    Hey Lenz,

I bought one second hand a few years ago and it's served me well as a first table saw. Iv'e used it mainly for small furniture and box making and it's been fairly accurate.
I always measure both ends of the blade against the fence to make sure i'm going to cut square however the fence alligns quite well and usually doesn't require any further adjustments.

Dust extraction is prety lousy on these saws. The base in not enclosed and you'll get saw dust everywhere. I removed the bottom housing and traced the outline on some scrap plywood and cut a circle for a 100mm dust port and screwed it back to the base. I attach it to my 2HP dusty and it seems to improve slightly. It comes with a 50mm dust port also, and I used to put a dust extraction hose into it but found it didn't make that much of a different. I now close up that dust port.

My Bosch table saw will be the next machine that will be upgraded in my workshop. I'd like something with a larger top and more powerful motor. I'd also like a saw that will handle larger lengths of timber a bit easier. But for someone only using it for smaller scale work, you've got yourself a great little saw.

...this is a fairly new saw on the market and I bought one at cltoolcentre.
I use it as a site saw and does the job perfectly, as I mainly do renos and need to rip down a fair bit of pine moulding, and don't use it for anything else.
I'm sure it's not as accurate and precise as my 10" table saw in my shop, but I bought it beacause it's light weight, ( for a portable table saw) can rip up to 600mm, hooks up to my festool vac with the supplied fittings and comes with a stand.
I was originally after an old Makita portable table saw but could not find one (rare as hens teeth)

For what I want it for, it's perfect.
The guys at work also think it's a great unit.

Well worth it...just my 2 bobs worth.

Being interested in this particular table saw, and seeing the link I thought I would have a look to see how much they go for.

When going to a new site I always check first to see where they are because if they are inter-state (as this place is) then shipping usually is too high for a purchase to be viable.
None-the-less the price advertised gives an idea of what to expect elsewhere.

This particular site though, to my surprise, has any thing non-trival as "call for price" - I mean what's the deal with that? I just can't see the point of an online shop with no pricing information.

I was just wondering if anyone had any insight as to why they would do that?

A few suggestions, they are sick of playing the Bunnings 'beat them by 10%' game, or they want to be play a similar game and be among the last two fighting for the deal, price volatility due to AU$ varying constantly, display a price based on the exchange rate 3 months ago when we were at 90c in the US dollar, and you would be about 18% above current at 105c in the US dollar, (most asian stuff is exported for US currency), want a chance to talk you into buying a different model with a better margin for them.

Thanks, yes, one can only gather that it is some kind of anti-competition ploy, none-the-less one always wonders if it is self-defeating because it must turn away people like me who find it annoying. Still, I suppose these are low volume items so the can afford to lose irregular customers in favour of regular customers. I suppose I just don't understand how these kind of businesses run.
