just athought
Most -all compressors generate heat. Therefore can't be sealed up. Seen a lot of compreeors moved outside (noise and space) but obviously need ventilation - could vent to the shed - then there is the dust issue you spoke of, if vented outdoors as most are -small tin sheds to keep the rain off. well they end up rusty. Possibly shed vent with free flow (polyfibre? ) dust filtration?

It really depends on compressor usage, and the airtightness and volume of the enclosure.
If usage is light (compressor does not continuousl) enclosure is "air loose" and/orbig enough then ventilation is not needed.
My enclosure has temp and humidity monitors and it's ventilated with a 100mm computer case type fan rigged up so that when the compressor starts so does the fan and it runs for some 10 minutes after the compressor stops. But this is only needed when the compressor runs continuously which is rare.

Resurrecting an oldie...
I finally got around to ordering a couple of those silencers, which arrived today.
At the same time I have I had a crook valve coming out of the Regulator/water trap. It has been put in with red Loctite (heavy duty) so I heated it up as best I could (there are plastic parts adjacent) placed it in the vise and gently but firmly started to undo it with vise grips. I thought I was slowly winning but suddenly the damn thing snapped off in the thread.

I have since taken all the clutter off it to minyimise plastic presence:

I'm still pretty sure there is a gasket or some other plastic part inside there, but even if I can heat it up enough without melting anything, how do I then unscrew it?? Internally it is smooth walled.
Ordering a replacement Chicago part will be nigh on impossible I suspect, not the least because it is a brand specific to Sydney Tools, and their service doesn't seem to extend this far.....or anywhere at all.
There is an option from Bunnings which is not in my local store (I may be able to order it in).

It will be a standard thread, probably 1/4 NPT. Any old regulator/water trap will do the job.
This wil work 1/4" Air Pressure Regulator Compressor Moisture Trap Filter Oil Water Separator | eBay or you can pay more and get slightly better quality.
Not really worth messing around with.
I might have a spare here. I'll go and have a look....stand by..
I found a brand new pressure switch, still in packaging and a new, high quality moisture trap but no regulator, sorry. Those were the droids I was looking for.

That's a great idea, but didn't work in this instance for three reasons:
- I can only get 5/32 bolts in there which bend just using my not-so-strong hands - not even a screwdriver needed to rotate them
- there is some object restricting how far in they can go
- Red loctite (even though I heated it up pretty well
I'll have to get a new one from eBay.

A LHT screw extractor and a bit of heat would get that out.
If there's a restriction teh extractor can be cut short as required.
The extractors are made of super hard steel and can take a fair bit of heat without affecting their hardness.
But if it as me I would get another reg.
