    Default Drum sander conveyor belt

Looking for ideas. I have a 16/32 performax plus drum sander and the conveyor belt is starting to separate at the joint, for about 50mm and growing. Has any one attempted to repair the belt with any success?

I have googled for a replacement without success. There is the option of having a new one made from sand paper, but I would prefer a genuine replacement, so long as I don't have to mortgage the house.

    Thanks for any help.

There are businesses that are in the business of making all sorts of custom belts.
One I have used is Rydell Industrial (Belting) Co .
I relive you are not conveniently located so you may hav etc send them the next to look at.

I believe that MachineryWarehouse sell these belts as well.

One must email or phone them though, I dont think they are on the site.

Are these machines identical? L110 - DS-1632 Drum Sander | Hare & Forbes Machineryhouse

And here is the parts catalogue for that machine https://images.machineryhouse.com.au...rts%20List.pdf

My experience is you are lucky if Hare and Forbes will sell you a spare that is not for one of their machines. I've tried to get various parts from them and before they even would tell me if they could get a part they wanted to know the serial number of the machine. When I asked them why they did that they said they are not obliged to support machinery not originally sold by them.

Woodfast in SA were the same. I can understand where they are coming from though as there are considerable costs for them to carry a parts inventory that they base upon the sales they make. Why support a competitors customers??

This is becoming a real issue for wood working machinery in Oz. Even if a business did sell a brand in the past they do not seem to care two hoots about a customer left stranded with no parts support. Jet / Powermatic is a classic example.

The Sand paper man no longer sells conveyor belts for Performax 16/32 machine.

I bought a belt for my 16-32 from the Sandpaper man a few months ago.
    Perfect fit.
They had multiple sizes and I got the impression they could produce any size.

Scally, was this a welded belt or something taped together. If it was the latter, taped joins don't last very long in the tropics.

Crocky, their website says that it is TAPED together.
I didn't take much notice to be honest.
It has been on my sander for a few months and had a fair amount of use without any problems.

I am not in the tropics but it has been damb wet in northern NSW.
    Cheers

    Scally,
I have been in touch with Sandpaper man and they advised that they conveyor belts only for the 10/20 sander and the machine next above the 16/32. they said that the belt for the 16/32 machine was causing too much in getting it to run true.

Default Gregory Machinery - Jet conveyor belt

My sandpaper belt stop tracking properly.
Nothing I did seemed to help.
    Eventually it got destroyed.

Sandpaperman told me they had given up trying to make a belt for this size machine.

Gregory Machinery said they had belts fabricated from a heavy duty synthetic that solved the problem.

I ordered one which arrived in a few days.

    It fitted easily.

I tightened the adjustment bolts on each side until the belt started to move. Then added another half a turn to give a bit of tension.

It tracked fine so I ran a narrow board through it. Still fine.

I have been using it for a couple of weeks and it is still tracking fine.

The material is a good 2mm thick synthetic and quite thick. There is no obvious seam but you can see a zigzag glue seam.

    It cost $180.00 delivered.

I am pleased to have the drum sander back in working order and I feel confident this belt will last a good while.

    Thanks for this info.
Ive only just read this thread and have the same sander.
It needed a belt when I got it a few years back.
Hare and Forbes wanted stupid $ to supply what they said would probably fit.
I had one made by a local company in Western Sydney.
It wasn’t perfect but I got it to track ok finally by wrapping some tape on one side of one of the rollers.
