    Default Carbatec 400mm scrollsaw

Anyone know anything about the Carbatec 400m scroll saw they just released?
    The price is amazing.

As a machine to learn on or a scroll saw that you dont use all the time, what would be the general opinion?

the saw looks like a good first buy however be aware that you get what you pay for. I started with a ryobi old timer and soon got a excalibur from crapatec. I think you won't go wrong for a occasional user but not what I would suggest for a serious user.

It looks like a rebadged Scheppach which our club has one of. As Mature One says it is a basic saw but does the job and would be fine for occasional use. There are a number of brands around with similar design and pricing.
I found with the Scheppach that the plastic insert around the blade sat slightly lower than the table so when doing small pieces they would get caught on the lip of the table. I replaced the plastic insert with a wooden one that sat at the right height and no more catching. One thing I did notice in the CT listing is a photo of the pinless blade holders being put in recesses in the top of the main arm to set their location when fitting them to the blade. Not sure if our Scheppach has that but it would be a handy feature.

if you have the facility to fit pines blades Helen from SA has adaptors to use pinless blades using pinned blades has limitations.
