compressor help needed
Could anyone help me in how to set the wiring up on a Condor MDR2-EA/11 250v 1_20A AC-3 11bar pressure switch on my compressor. The frustrating part they dont show on the connections the positive or negative terminals to wire to. One side of the switch has a connection (which is the power in side) and below it is the other connection and that is called the line. On the opposite side it says motor, again the top connection is one and below it is the other outgoing but it doesnt show the positive or negative. (that is going to the motor)

Hi pas,
I attach a simple wiring digram of the connection for your Condor Pressure Switch based on a diagram found on the Condor MDR2.
You need to look at the wiring Diagram of your Motor to find the L, N & E terminals as well as making sure you are connecting the Motor to spin in the right direction.
Regards,
Keith.

As the motor is 240V AC there's no positive or negative, only active, neutral and earth. Swapping the active and neutral won't make the motor turn in the opposite direction but it may make it unsafe electrically.

The correct reply to the question is get an Electrician to do it!

Actually, in Queensland at least, it is perfectly legal (if not always recomended) for a person to undertake repairs to their own plug in appliances.
It's a pretty straight forward job to swap over a pressure switch and it should just be a straight swap over. However it would appear that Pas has lost track of which wire from the power lead connected to which one from the motor, which is unfortunate. The pressure switches generally have tow sets of contacts, one for the active the other for the neutral. Without knowing the details of the motor it's not really possible to tell which is the active and which is the neutral. The seemingly standard "get an electrician" answer is not at all helpful.
Pas,
if you can't work out which wire on the motor is the active and which is the neutral you would be well advised to get an electrician to fix it for you, but perhaps if you can trace the wires to their terminals or find other markings then someone more knowledgeable may be able to point you in the right direction.

If pas is just replacing the Pressure Switch on an existing Compressor then the Motor would be wired to the right rotation. If not then the Motor needs to be checked to see what direction it is wired to, to change direction would mean swapping two of the terminal wires which would be on the Active side. Usually on the Terminal Cover there is a diagram to show this. There is no real need to switch the Neutral on the Pressure Switch it is the Active that needs switching.
Pas if you are not confident that you can wire up the Pressure Switch then do have an Electrician do this for you.

Keith.

Thanks Keith,
I did appreciate the time that you spent to find the information for me.
I also went to my local electrical suppliers and what he pointed out was that with the diagram - it came through mirror reversed. But I have now connected it up and guess what the switch switches it on and off. I haven't at this point fired it up to see if it cuts out when the pressure is reached.
Just a little side note this is a contractors compressor (one with twin piston driven by belts from the motor) I found it on the local council cleanup throw out, weighed a tonne - what people do sometimes in regard to a little TLC.
thanks again - if I have any further enquiries I know who to come to.
And I do appreciate the other fellas with their input - it all helps.
ps I now have to find out how to take the oil dip stick out without breaking it.
Regards PAS
