Help - I need a Bobbin Sander on/off switch
Hi, I have a Woodman Bobbin Sander that I need some help with. It needs a new on/off switch. The sander is about 20 years old and it is Model No. OVS-10 Single Phase. Can anybody help me with where to go to get a used switch or even a new switch. Our electrician thinks the switch could be about $150 new so I would like to try used first. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks..

Any reason why you can't use a generic, modern and available switch? A hell of a lot cheaper than $150! Or are you trying to keep your m/c original? Anyway, I might be able to source one tomorrow. I'll send you a PM if I have any luck. In the meantime, do you have a photo of the old one or the m/c showing the switch? BTW, welcome to this great site!

Hi, Rick, it doesn't matter if it is not original as long as it does the job. We dont think the switch we have is original anyway. We are not that electrical minded but do you think a generic switch would be okay? I have a photo I will get my son to upload when he gets home. Thanks. Haydn

I can't guarantee anything, but I know this bloke with a shed full of worn out old machines (some of them single phase) and although I don't think any of them are woodworking machines, the switchboxes should be fine on your m/c. If he has one I'm pretty sure I'll get it for nothing - he owes me a few favours but that's another story. If so, I'll bung it in the mail after my son (a licensed electrician) checks it out first. Okay?

By the way, that's a fine looking gasket you have there on the old box!

Bad new Shagster, I'm afraid. Went to Ron's today but some bugger had beaten me to them. Three 240v machines were there, 2 of them big enough to have had the sort of switchbox you need, but the boxes were gone. Picked up a nice 2HP motor in ordinary condition for $30 though. Sorry I couldn't help, mate.

Jaycar has a switch which looks like it might do the trick. Item number is SP0786. Only problem is it's rated at 300V 3A, which might not be enough for a spindle sander?
