I realise that my information is not exactly pertinent, but I have a variety of branded power tools, including Metabo, Ryobi+1, Makita, Triton and GMC, most of which have been OK. That certainly applies to the three Dewalt units I have: a corded drill D21711 made in China, a thicknesser DW733 made in Taiwan, and a bandsaw DW876 made in Italy. Each has performed very well, and I have no complaints. However, until I checked for this post, I had no idea that each was made in a different country, a situation that is probably par for the course for most manufacturers these days.

Update time on my Dewalt experience.

At the end of October I took the year old Dewalt Router to an authorised Dewalt warranty repair shop. After six week they had failed to fix it. To make matters worse, at about the three week mark, they agreed to send the router to Dewalt (as they did not have a table and the problem only showed when in use on a table,) and did not send it. They also did not bother to contact me to tell me there was nothing more they could do and to come and pick it up.

Needless to say, I was not impressed and sent an email to Dewalt detailing chapter and verse of the past problems as well as the poor performance of their agent. That was on Friday.

On Monday I received an excellent, frank response to my email. The upshot was that their own repair guys were snowed under, and as I had been mucked around for so long and had had more than my share of Dewalt warranty issues, they were going to replace the router ASAP.

So, early next week I should have a new one, which is a good result. Pity I had to buy another router (I got the big Triton and love it) whilst I was being messed around.
    Cheers
    Ric
