    Default Dressing bench grinder question

    Hi guys,
I have got a 8" GMF bench grinder that I have recently got. I have fitted two new wheels but she is vibrating like crazy. I am going to get a dressing tool, looking at the Geiger one. Has anyone on here used one or have one, and secondly, how straight does my tool rest need to be? Looking at mine, it's not perfectly square and also has a small section ground out of it, almost like its been sitting hard up on the wheel and been notched. Anyway, how do you recommend I true up my wheels?

    Matt

Did you end up getting the Geiger Tru-N-Dress? Where did you source it from?

The best (and cheapest) bench grinder dresser that I use is a small (pie) piece of a "worn" out concrete saw. Because it is curved and sits flat on the rest it is easy to move the diamond across the wheel to achieve a smooth straight surface.

I ended up getting the Geiger Tru-N-Dress but unfortunately, I couldn't correct the wobble. So I replaced both wheels. Brand new, and it still wobbles. So ... guess it's time for a new grinder!

I wouldn't throw your grinder out just yet.
What does the grinder spin like without the wheels on.
    GMF grinders are good grinders.
If it seems to run true with out the wheels.
You may just have to try and set the wheels true.
Chris Park on this forum had quite a long thread on balancing is grinder.
Search that thread out and have a read.

    Cheers Matt
