Drill press issues
Have a Centurion floor standing pedestal drill (Bought at auction, spur of the moment $80) Motor bearings etc. all good. - However the quill? (up down bit that doesn't spin) has teeth broken off on the rack section (pinion seems good) This seems to be a cast item. Question is can this sort of thing be fixed (thinking brasing and re-milling) or do I have to find a replacement part? Worst comes to worst the nice chuck that came with it has the same Morse taper as my wood lathe (handy) and a 1hp motor, pulleys and other bits.
Any advice appreciated as to the do-ability of repair or chances of finding a part to suit most welcome

Bummer I reckon a good welder or someone who can cast a new part or someone may have spares laying about. I suggest you also do a post over in the Metal forum. Some photos will help.

Should not be a problem to build up the missing teeth with bronze the re cut the teeth, pretty common type of repair especially with older gear that is difficult to replace Have a look here this is agear repair but it is the same process
