I'm not a guru on drill presses, but I have used a few. In general, heft equates to ability to do more interesting things with mostly better precision.

Of the last two units on your list, the 16 speed one would (or could) be slightly better. It has drill speeds down to 120 rpm, which for some drill bit sizes and materials being drilled, may be more desirable than the narrower drill speed range of the 5 speed model.

As for table size, most drill presses of this capacity are in the same range. Interestingly the round table on the 5 speed unit is 300mm, while the square table on the 16 speed is 290mm x 290mm. In effect they are identical, except one table has had the corners removed.

My preference between those two would be for the 750W 16 speed unit.

    Happy Father's day.

    Mick.

Worth noting that Timbecon have a 5 year warranty on Sherwood machinery. i would say the Carbatec unit is likely 1 or 2 years at the most.

100% correct - i am not in a rush to get one, but the carby unit is on 15% off till sunday
so 594 vs 649 - if the sherwood is better i will get that, otherwise i will pick up the carby...
i have a range of orange/blue tools in the garage...

My money would be on the Sherwood. My thought process being that the extra $55 for an additional 3 years warranty is pretty good value.
