    Default Drill press table insert

I am currently looking for a sacrifical piece of 120 x 120 timber for the centre of my drill press table. Can anyone please recommend the type of timber I should use, and the thickness?

The table is 32mm of ply thick, so there is plenty of depth. I am looking to have a 10mm wide ledge to sit this piece on. Again, the problem is the varying thickness eg., I have 9mmm MDF panel that measures 9.4mm thick - at least this sheet does. I wonder what the next sheet will measure.

I was thinking 18mm thick MDF - that seems to be a bit more consitent in size, but is it too soft for this application - should I use 18mm plywood, whatever ?

    regards

Use the cheapest you can find as you will drill into it and then have to replace it.
