New to me Drum Sander
I recently purchased a S/H Sherwood MS3140 Drum Sander and after cleaning it up I noticed that the conveyor roller bush was very worn. I decide that if I could turn it 180 degrees I could use it for a while before having to replace them, well that fell to pieces instantly.
So of to the internet to find some replacements. Hares and Forbes had some on their site so I called about availability and was told that it would be 4 to 6 weeks as they were sourced overseas.
I had some Phosphor bronze in the shed, so I grabbed that and headed to a mates place with a lathe and we knocked up a set of 4.
While it was in pieces I also decided to fix up the problem of mounting the extension tables, originally it had nuts and bolts which was a real pain to try and do up as it is mounted to a cabinet and no access. I made up four ali plates to fit behind which still allowed full movement to adjust up and down and left to right.
I also shimmed the conveyor parallel to the drum and she is all sweet now.
Having never used one before it to a little while to get the hang of it and I really understand now that it is not a thicknesser but a sander. (I read this somewhere on this forum )
It is a really cool machine

So true
I had already fixed the mounting for the bearing as it had a crack in it.
Not realising it was cast I smacked it with a hammer to straighten it before I could pop a weld in, it broke into two pieces.
So i constructed a replacement from some angle iron and a piece of 3mm plate.
