Default Drum Sander from old Lathe

Last week while at Weisyboys place in Brisbane he had an old GMC lathe.
I posed the question - You might be able to make a drum sander from it.

    Has anyonbe done this ?
Could it be done? maybe not with a GMC but there are lots of cheap lathes around.
Could you use a wooden roller and just fit the table to it??

Just a thought after seeing grinders made from old lathe headstocks and interested in others opinions??

just turn a cylinder between centres and wrap sand paper around it. then have an mdf ( or similar ) table made up that can lock on to the bed and has legs that fold down to the ground to support it. make the table removeable of course so you can make up[ new collums anytime and so you can change them ( have different grits if needed).

    should work.

    cheers

Google is your friend. Use ["drum sander" lathe] in the search field. The one by William Smith is particularly apropos, but too large to upload (I think).

Thanks Joe this was an inquiry to see if anyone had bother to make one. I thought it would be feasible. I'll check Google if i end up with a spare lathe.
