Drum sander paper - Indasa where to get
I need to buy a roll or two of new paper for my drum sander and was pretty happy with the Indasa paper that was on it when I got it. Not wanting to muck around with what I know works and lasts well I would not mind buying the Indasa again. I found via a search on here that the importer is in Perth - good for me, but does anyone know who it is or if anyone else except Timbacon sells Indasa over here. Happy to buy online if someone knows of a good supplier.
Cheers,
Burnsy

Hi Burnsy- Not sure about Indasa, but I found a mob in Beechboro which is terrific for pretty much any kind of abrasive. Perhaps predictably, the business is called: Abrasiflex. A fellow there named Glen is knowledgeable. The place is on the web at: www.abrasiflex.com.au, and the direct phone number is 08 9370 3455. Best of all is the fact that they will courier any order within the metro area for just $6.50, which is a very good deal, I reckon.
The email for them is: [email protected]
Hope that helps. Do let us know if you find what you are looking for. I'm about to buy a drum sander myself....perhaps a Jet...and will need belts for that as well. This is the mob I will be going to for sure.
Cheers!

Thanks for that Mike, meant to go see them today but I ran out of time. I don't think they do Indasa. I was really impressed with the stuff that was on mine, I have sanded alot with it and it still has plenty of go in it so would like to get it again if possible. Unfortunately it has a burn run through the middle of it (from glue I think) that is a pain. I read a good trick about reversing the paper on the drum when it starts to wear, tried it and it was like new again, worth keeping in mind!
Cheers,
Mike

Thanks in return, Burnsy. I'm in Mundaring, so perhaps we should have a natter in person one day! What kind of drum sander are you using, what size, and do you love it? Any recommendations? The Jet one looks impressive, and I'll post the link here for your perusal. All comments or opinions welcome!

Big Mike, you been on the red juice tonight? I am the one with the 22/44 in Kalamunda that I offered for you to come have a play with
Great machine, I love it and you are still welcome to come have a play with it as soon as I find some new paper, unless of course you want to bring 3150mm of 76mm paper with you
Cheers,
Small Mike

Still laughing about the juice. I had a reply from another guy in Newcastle who invited me over to look at his machine, or so I thought....but sure, I'll send you a personal message and we can exchange phone numbers. Wouldn't mind checking out the Weir on the way through just to see if we're going to have anything to drink this summer.
This Indasa paper...what makes it so special, I wonder....Most of the stuff that Abrasiflex has seems to be Korean in origin. Is Indasa from India? Whatever the case, if the abrasive is good, then that's great.
I've been having a bit of a....shall we say "discussion" with Power Tools and Machinery Sales about the price of said machines, and the Aussie dollar has turned once again into the Pacific Peso. They are charging a lot for these machines, but I'm trying my best to get them to sell one to me at the price that they paid the stuff they had when the dollar was higher. I guess that if they want to sell it badly enough, they'll come to the party. If not, I may have to get the smaller machine.
How quick is it to change papers on them? Do you stick to, say 100 grit for most things, or do you use it as a semi-finishing sander with finer paper as well?
Will message you now, but thanks for the invaluable input, Burnsy.

Indasa is made in Portugal and seemed to last very well on Jarrah. I have read good reports on it from others here too. I have only used 80 grit so far and intend to get some 120 grit as my next purchase as I don't really use it for stock removal, just prefinishing after thicknessing. Have sent you a PM Cellist.

Hey Burnsy, I was at Abrasiflex this afternoon getting some 80 grit and 120 grit for my drum sander. They stock "Deer" brand cloth backed but only in 300mm wide. They sell it by the metre so I bought 3m of each (mine needs 2400 lengths). I can easily cut it into 75mm strips. Total cost for the 6m was $41.78.
Regards
Larry
PS Pity you missed Saturday at Derek's - hope you can make the next one

Hi Larry, Burnsy et al...
Got my Jet 22/44 yesterday and actually managed to get it into my workshop, lift it onto the stand and get it going. That is one heavy mutha...
It came with 3 rolls of paper (sample size) 36, 80 and 120. All Jet products, so they have a mark for the taper at the end and theoretically another mark up the roll somewhere to tell you where to cut it.
Checked on Amazon (!) and it's sold there, but not shipped out of the U.S.. Of course, with the Aussie dollar having turned to sh*t...back to the "Pacific Peso" as I say...it's probably better to buy what's here, given the price and the shipping.
Interesting about Abrasiflex. I was looking on their website last night, at:
http://abrasiflex.com.au/prod-coated.asp
and noticed what they call "engineer's rolls" under number 11. Not wide...up to 50mm wide. Not having owned one of these drum sanders before, I wonder how much it matters if the paper is only 50 wide. Sure, more wraps, but is that a bad thing? I'll give them a call today and have a chat.
Do have a look at the "Alox" stuff under number 10 as well...
Burnsy, will give you a call, but curious to know how you went with the Indasa stuff. What's the range of their paper in terms of width and so on?
Thanks for all of this, gentlemen.

One more question...do either or any of you use any spray-on adhesive for the belts on the drum? If so, what and where might you get it? I notice that the belt has a tendency to gather due to the angle on the drum.
Thanks for all of this, gentlemen.
