Easy fast improvement to drill press light
My generic Asian type 1hp drill press (mine's a Hafco SPD-25A) has a cavity in the head casting behind the drill spindle, wired for a 240V light bulb. As originally supplied, it's a bit like a candle in a cave, in that big ol' dark casting cavity.
There's a quick improvement though. I bought a 240V 'super slim' LED light from a big hardware store, about $8, uses 10W and produces 1100 lumen, which is bright. Because it's LED, it produces very little heat (gets a bit hot in the electronics, I guess from down-conversion and rectification).
Ok, here's the good bit. Because the bulb is cool, I figured I could fit a white shroud around the bulb as a reflector (since no heat problems).
Solution was an offcut of 90mm PVC stormwater pipe, cut to length and slit lengthwise so it would slide up the cavity, expand and grip the side walls. It worked great, plenty of light on the work now.
So there you go. On Youtube that'd be called a life hack, right?
