hi black bear
are you able to open the back of the foot pedal because the pedal could have a couple of contacts inside.
I tried to do a search for it but came up with no luck a photo of inside would help.

sorry black bear is that red and black on the switch and white not connected its not real easy to see
but if it is then red would b your active and black is switched active but iff all three are connected then i would need to see the side of the micro switch and you want the one in common and normaly open or "no" for your foot to b on the pedal for operation and when you remove you foot it breaks the circuit

Pedal Switch
Three wires are connected to the switch. Red bottom White center and Black top. I can test it out to see what is the switch wire.I am wondering if I could wire it into a batten 3 pin plug, like the ones used in the ceiling lighting transformer set up, so I don't have to cut the Drill Press lead.ThanksBB

to do that you would need a plug and socket and remove the three wires connected and just have the actives running through the switch the negative needs to b blue pointed and the earth needs to b connected to the base as well . dont solder them onto the switch but use proper insulated crimps that way if the switch fails then you can remove the micro switch and replace it.

Hello Black Bear
with all respect,
you shouldn't install this yourself, as it may cause you or others severe shock.
This is clearly electrical work to be carried out by licensed persons.
Once again, with all respect,
It is obvious that you do not have even basic electrical knowledge, or you would not have posted this.
Hence there are high probability risks with your carrying out ANY work with this switch.
Can I (strongly) suggest that you get an electrician to supply and fit an industrial type foot switch.
Or, as a minimal and legal DIY job, buy something like this
Power Off Socket With Footswitch - Eco at Home
Look for an industrial type if this is not robust enough.
The switch may not last as long as you would like, but at you could have confidence that the metalwork on your drill press is not live.
Before you and any others get angry with my post, sleep on it one night please.
regards to all, mike

I was employed by a local electricity supply authority up until 1988. I have some knowledge of electrical circuitry , but these newer devices are a lot different to those of 88. I appreciate what you say, however I am electrically aware. I will test the item out for its function. Thank you for your concern. Black Bear

Working through the wiring of the foot switch is one half of the problem, but where and how you connect it into the drill press is also an issue. Some older drills had a light switch for a power switch, some have mechanical interlock push button switches, and many of the newer ones have magnetic No Volt Release switches.
Installing a foot switch to any power tool without a tool mounted isolation switch is a bad policy, as accidental trigger becomes a distinct posibility, whether from a misplaced foot, something dropped or falling off the table, or an outsider entering the shop and not being aware of the existance of the switch.
With purely mechanical switching, the existing switch can remain in series with the foot switch, and the foot switch can be installed between the GPO and the plug on the drill. This approach does not work with NVR switched drills as the switch is designed to drop out every time the power to the drill is interupted. In this case the footswitch must be installed between the NVR switch on the drill and the motor.
I agree with Mike that you appear not to have the background knowledge to undertake such a modification, and also agree with the suggestion to use a guarded industrial footswitch to minimise the possibilty of accidental triggering.

Foot Pedal Switch
Thank you blokes: I did suspect that the changes since 1988 would be too far out of my electrical knowledge. I di agree, I am not electrically up to date to attempt this fitting, So I will speak to my local electrical supplier and see what they come up with.BB
