Lightbulb Getting a Tanner table saw going

I’ve just been given an old Tanner table saw, circa 1970. It went for literally one cut, then I tried again and get a humming sound and no start.

Wondering if this is a capacitor issue? I had to look up what a capacitor is…!!

    Any advice appreciated.

I just sold my Tanner TS. It was a great little unit.
Unplug the saw and remove the drive belt. Check that the blade and motor rotate freely by hand.
If they do it could be the start capacitor. If they don't, you need to sort that out first.
Those were the droids I was looking for.

If the saw hasn't been used for a while I would suspect that the problem is in the capacitor start switch.

I have had that happen with the switch contacts failing to close after the saw is turned off, due to rubbish (sawdust) being trapped between the contacts. I have also had the contacts catch an insect between them.

Blowing out the switch may fix your problem otherwise you will need to take it apart to clean it.
