Thread: Gmf bench grinder - motor size?

Also, would you know if the older motors showed the power as Input (like they do now) or as Output? Sorry if that's like the "string" question but I figured it's worth asking.

That looks like a circa 1970'S standard 1HP.
Older motors usually only show the power output, so if they say they are 1HP then then usually are that.

Mine are the 3Phase versions of yours which have very rigid cast iron tool rests.
The 3P motors run extremely smooth if the wheel can be balanced.

I recommend wobble washers if you can get them - check on line.

Hopefully the price is right... At the very least, new wiring. Looks like rubber cable which may very well have perished.

Russ, do you think a typical tight ar**d accountant would buy anything if the price wasn't right?. And if the only problem is old wiring I would be more than happy. Still looking and waiting.

Not a lot to a grinder I guess. Assuming the bearings are OK, a quick paint job and it will be like a new one!

My 240 volt 8" "Heavy duty" GMF bench grinder has a 3/4 HP motor but the 240 volt 8" GMF "Utility" grinders had a 1/2 HP motor according to this photo
