Help with Delta thicknesser problem
I had run a piece of Jarrah through my 12 1/2" Delta thicknesser, switched it off, and adjusted the height to take off a thin slice, when the height adjuster refused to move. It is locked tight, will not budge up-or-down.
Any ideas what might be causing this?
I looked to see if there was any waste jamming something somewhere, but there was nothing obvious. I also ran the dust extractor in it to clean out anything, but this did not change the situation.
The thicknesser get mild use and has worked well in recent weeks during my bench build.
Appreciate your input.

G'Day Derek,
Sorry don't have a Delta but a Tawain copy.
After doing a load of hardwood I had trouble with the height adjuster winding mechanism;
as grub screw had been dislodged with the hard work cutting the hardwood.
Not sure if that helps??
Cheers, crowie

Hi Derek, don't know specifically the design of your machine but my first thought is that the thread has picked up...metal from where the nut and thread are engaged transfers from one to the other and siezes up, stainless steel is bad for it, (wise to put a dab of lube on before putting the nut on) steel on steel less so and steel on brass would be unusual more likely to wear out the brass nut, how to fix lots of lube crc or such, gentle working back and forward, but this can also be worse than just going one way, high chance of damaging the remainder of thread, have to go by feel, might be possible to split the nut and rescue the thread, in the end it's hard to say what will work if it is a picked up thread

Rather obvious I know, but you did release the cutter head lock?
After that I'd be inclined to take the covers off and inspect the winding mechanism. The culprit is probably a chip jamed in one of the threadsregards from Alberta, Canada

I've been trying to find time to record what happened.
My good friend Perry (Pops) came around on Sunday morning to help. Our thoughts ran along the same lines to the suggestions above.
So we stripped down the machine .... finding nothing along the way. This led to stripping off even more parts .... and still nothing .. nada .. zip. All very puzzling.
Then Perry discovered the problem! A tiny grub screw that held the height adjusting handle on its arm had come loose and was projecting enough to strike the side of the machine's body and prevent the handle rotating. Aaaah!
Then we had to put is back together again ...
Thanks Perry!
