Default Need Help Hooking up 3 phase Disc sander

Hi.. I have a small shop and Im trying to hook up a State 24" disc sander. I have a 5 hp 20 amp 220 volt rotory phase converter. The sander is 3phase 2 hp with a magnetic start/stop button and forward/off/ reverse. The motor was wired for 440v but I rewired to 220v per label on motor.. The problem I have is the when I hit start, it buzzes loud, I hit forward motor starts , gets up to speed but doesnt dis-engage , just keeps buzzing. Sometimes the magnetic switch doesnt even engage. I think the magnetic start/stop box has 440 components and wont work with 220 ? I did order a new 220 3ph magnetic start/stop switch and hoping this corrects the problem.. My 3phase spindle sander works okay off same phase converter setup. Am I right in thinking its the magnetic starter box components ? Thanks !

The coil in your 440 stater will not hold the contacts in at 220v.

I tried joining practical machinist , went though confirmation email and logged on, but wont let me post a question or anything. I guess I have to wait.

You will need to wait for an admin to approve your membership. Won't be long. It has been the weekend, and there is a time difference, so you should find you will be in before too long at all now. It is worth the wait IMO.
