At The Hills Mens Shed, I am helping to restore/rebuild a HYCO 8" jointer. A big heavy cast iron thing of some beauty, if you happen to be into things like that. (and if you're not I shall need an explanation and a note from your Mum).

It has been cleaned, polished, de-rusted, re bearinged, re painted, re mounted on a sturdy steel base and is just about ready to begin a second 50 years of work.
We have everything just about in place to start it up but we are wondering what the ideal turning speed is for the blades. The motor we are using is about as old as the machine and is 1.5 HP , 2850 R.P.M. We have any number of pulleys we can fit or we can make new ones to suit, we just don't know what the ideal speed should be.

Suggestions please.
