Default Can anyone ID this grinder?

    Hi all,

At the beginning of my wood turning adventures (last year?), I was given a grinder by a (former?) forum member .

It came without a label and its now fitted with two CBN wheels from CWS. They are the 80 and 180 and I am EXCEEDINGLY happy with them (thanks Jim!).

My hassle is the thing seems to spin at 14.9 billion RPM.

I'm hoping to get a slower one. The CBNs don't seem to need speed and honestly they seem to work when either powering up or powering down.... about 1/4 of the machines revs. I don't have "fairy touch fingers" as I was taught to use when acquired. I'm trying, but I cant get the hang of it. Slower would be better until I graduate from Completely Incompetent.

So, anyone have any idea of what it is or what its specs might be?

ALSO, can anyone tell me where I can buy a genuine 5/8" shafted slow speed grinder? I'm turning up dead ends everywhere. (or a variable! now THAT would be awesome!)

On another matter, anyone have a phone number or email of ? I want to get some lessons and I personally found him an excellent teacher.

Evanism, it looks like an Abbott & Ashby or a clone, and they do hoot. Do a Google search, there are various slow speed grinders available, not sure about the new one being sold by the maker of blue wood lathes.
