JET Supersaw timing belt broken
The belt (one that moves the blade up & down) of my JET supersaw has finally broken after 15 years of service. I found a few of them on some US website but it costs nearly $100 to have it shipped to Australia.
Is it possible to buy it locally if I have the length, width & # of teeth?

Does this look like the belt?

If it is then it is probably the same as this Gates belt as the numbers on the Jet listing seem to indicate that it is a 10mm wide belt and 686mm long.

As China says, you should be able to get a replacement at a good transmission supplier as most machinery manufacturers use off the shelf belts in their equipment and the price will be about half of the genuine belt.Dallas

Hi Wongo,
I have a JET Supersaw JTS 250 CS, and the part No. listed is "VB 290 J10" Poly Vee Belt.
I have recently needed to replace the Drive Belt on my JET 13" Thicknesser, & the 2 tires on my JET 14" Bandsaw.
I found Gregory Machinery very helpful & they had the correct parts in stock & dispatched them promptly. I also purchased a set of double sided blades for the thicknesser at the same time.
Being the JET agents sometime ago, the staff I spoke to were familiar with the machines & knew exactly what I required.
My 3 JET machines are all about the same age (11 years) & I guess it won't be too long before the Poly Belt on my JET Supersaw will need replacing.
Regards
Alan

This one. Small pulleys for a very heavy load.

I should have worded it better what is the condition of the pulleys? If you get a new belt and fit it in the pulley groove, the belt should not touch the bottom of the pulley. If it does, the pulley is worn and can cause premature belt failure.

The pulleys are made of metal so they are as good as new. I think the problem is that the diameters are very small so it requires a lot of force to turn them, hence a lot of stress on the belt. What surprises is how the original lasted 13 years. When I put the belts side by side I can see that the original belt is much more well made.
Still not sure where I can find a new one, and I am not paying $60 again.Visit my website at www.myFineWoodWork.com

Scott, is it a no name brand? As suggested earlier go to CBC bearings or a reputable automotive parts supplier and buy a Gates belt and I bet you don't pay $60 for it as well. They can supply belts by dimension not by what it might fit.

Thanks Chris. No it is no a no name. They are the same, same brand, same numbers and codes.
I have been googling it but with no luck. Thanks for the key words you just mentioned. I will keep trying.Visit my website at www.myFineWoodWork.com

Were you running the belt very tight? This type of belt needs to be tighter than what you expect compared to a normal vee belt. With a belt than short you would tighten it until you virtually can't deflect the centre of it by pushing on it with a finger quite firmly.
