Keyless chuck opinions??
What are peoples opinions on keyless chuck sold by Hare and Forbes (HAFCO) eg C294 - C294 Industrial Drill Chuck - Keyless Type | Hare & Forbes Machineryhouse ?? Worth the money?? Reasonable quality??
I'm kooking at replacing the chuck on a drill press.
Thanks and cheers

I have used the McJing 1-13mm for about 10 years. It is an Albrecht clone, and a bloody good one ... well, mine is. The run out is amazingly good. Tested here: Drill Press Table
I would have sprung for a genuine Albrecht ($$$) if the result had gone the other way. Happy to keep ghe clone.

One way to tell if a chuck is half decent is if the specs provided include a "run out" spec then exactly what that spec is.
Neither H&F or McJing specifically provide this specification, although McJing provides a spec called "precision" which is "0.12" for all their keyless chucks but no units are provided, presumably it's mm?
If the run out is 0.12 mm then that is not too bad given the cost of the chucks. Decent, mid price range chucks have a typical run out of about 0.08mm, and even very expensive (ie $500 )chucks have only 0.04mm of run out.
I have 5 McJing keyless chucks (the oldest one is 15 years old) and I was pretty rough on the it and managed to shatter one of the jaws after only a few months use but McJing happily replaced it.
Last year I measured the chuck runouts and measured between 0.03 and 0.56 mm! I also have a keyed chuck that came with my DP that has been worked hard and it has a 0.65mm runout.
Thats the problem with McJing stuff as you will not know beforehand what you end up with
Here's a link to chucks that are even cheaper than McJings and the price includes an arbor
Drill Chuck with Arbor Sets
I suspect they would be the same quality as the McJings and H&F
Here is a link to a decent quality and priced keyless chuck from CTC tools in HK.
KEYLESS DRILL CHUCK - FOR B TYPE ARBOR (1PC) #L18 | CTC Tools
It has a 0.08mm runout and the price is US$44 but shipping to Aus is US$28 - still works out cheaper than the Hare and Forbes one you linked to, and it is a 1-16 mm (H&F is only 3-16 mm)
I have bought many bibs and bobs from CTC Tools and they have all been good quality. The shipping is expensive but it gets here very quickly.

I have this H&F keyless chuck, used in my wood lathe tailstock for drilling blanks.
As with all tooling the sky is the limit and it depends on the end use.Pat

Have a look at Vertex, they're very good value for money
Vertex Keyless 13mm Drill Chuck VKD102 | Get Tools Direct
Vertex Keyless 3-16mm Drill Chuck VKD104 | Get Tools Direct
EDIT: Should also note that their stuff is both good enough to use in a professional production environment and able to withstand the abuse of kids at trade school.

Thanks to all the respondents - great information...
Originally I was trying to makeup a shopping cart to over $300 at H&F so I could get a $50 discount. Now that I have bought a chuck from somewhere else (thanks to the information above), I'll have to choose something else from H&F...What a 'pity'....
