Thread: A new lathe or three.

A new lathe or three.
I picked these up today. Got them for a really good price.
Ex school, Woodfast lathes. Still in really good nick.
All have tailstocks, banjos and rests and there is even a Vicmarc chuck and a few face plates and drive centres.
All the centres line up nicely.
They are still 3 phase but I will sort that out after I give them a new set of bearings and a coat of paint.
I bought them with the intention of keeping the short bed model but now that I have them I really like the look of the longer ones.
I guess I could keep two if I can find the room. Those were the droids I was looking for.

Electrics stripped out and motors removed.
Anybody need a vintage 3 phase DOL motor starter. Australian made and still in really good condition. Those were the droids I was looking for.

All motors have been disassembled, the star point brought out to the terminalstrip, reassembled and tested with an old VSD. All work beautifully.
The two long bed headstocks have been disassembled and new bearings purchased. I'll put them on tomorrow.
The short bed headstock is proving stubborn. I've got it off but need a hydraulic press to remove the bearings. Might have to try and rig up something tomorrow with a welded frame and a bottle jack.
It's a long time since I've pulled machinery apart. I'm enjoying this. Those were the droids I was looking for.

Haven't decided on a colour yet Ross. I won't be the fluoro green they are at the moment though
Probably grey.
Fletty, they are from Walsend High, mid seventies. Those were the droids I was looking for.

Tony
Your problem with paint is solved. Christos has just been over and he has some spare paint so we figured you should have a GTG at your place for the painting or we could just come up and give you a hand.
I've always wanted to see a pink lathe.
