Thanks for the post, Chris. I have just purchased one from LV for my drill press ... along with a few other items to "spread" the shipping costs. Interesting that 2 other small items did not alter the shipping cost. Postage for 3 items - taking 49 days - was $19.50 USD.

Derek, several months ago you were waiting on a cheap led light you purchased for your Makita/clone. Did you ever report back on how it performed?

Lance, you have a good memory! I purchased 2, and they are good lights. About as costly as the Veritas one. Why look at another light? The book lights are on a flexible stalk, and the Veritas looks easier to train on a spot and keep it there. Plus the booklights require batteries, and the Veritas is rechargeable. Plus I needed an excuse to purchase a couple of other small items they were in my Wish List, and too costly for shipping alone

I was interested as it was brought up at about the time I bought my little router which had in built LEDs. It is much larger than what I had envisioned. In my mind it was a little thing that you mounted on your router.

Can you paste a link to the ones you bought? I have come to realise that cutting and marking fine joinery requires far better task lighting than what I have available at my bench.

I have been meaning to post this for some time and this looks like a suitable place to put it. Some pictures of the light I installed on my drill press, I got it from here

The light being centred on the chuck throws a shadow on the work which can be a bit annoying with forstener bits but at the same time because it is concentric with the shaft it means you can centre the position of the piece to be drilled and with a bit of practise the drill hits the mark just about every time using the shadow outline.

I am still waiting on the light from Lee Valley .... it now looks like it will end up on the bandsaw.

The light for the drill press now looks to be a bike light (found on eBay) ....





Attached with a couple of rare earth magnets.
